A Friday in Reims ending with Ruinart!

On Friday we only had one site visit during the day and that was a visit to Reims Cathedral in the morning. I was pretty excited about this seeing as I've studied it before in art history.
It was one of my favorite tour guides that we've had so far and I truly learned a lot. The church has so much history and its part in international reconciliation is really interesting.
Just beautiful.

The smiling angel.

Inside the church is fairly bare.
This is due mainly to it's history.

These were all individually carved out of the wall.

After the tour ended we had all day to spend in Reims until dinner.
The group of us had decided the day before that we were going to go visit the museum of surrender. We went back to the hotel to waste a few hours during the lunch hour. All of the businesses are closed from 12:00 to 2:00 so I squeezed in some homework and a nap before we headed off to the museum.

We walked a few blocks to a nearby bakery and picked up some paninis to walk with on our way.

The weather was starting to look a little dreary. I was crossing my fingers that it was going to hold off for a few hours seeing as I didn't bring any rain gear with me.

The surrender took place in a school building, part of which still is fully functioning. We had to walk by a few sketchy looking kids to get to the entrance.

Also, the museum is free for Americans.
Go USA

The map room was where the signing of the surrender took place.
Super, super cool.

After the museum we had a few more hours to waste before dinner at Ruinart.
I walked around stores of Reims and ended up with only macaroons.

I snacked on these while I uploaded photos.

Squeezed in another 15 minute nap before it was time for Ruinart!

On our way!

Ready for our tour at the oldest champagne house in the world!

In the salt caves of Ruinart.

The first try of a photo in the dark caves.

So so bright.
Ruinart was the one house that wasn't lit on the inside. We waited for a bit at the beginning for everyone's eyes to adjust.

Outside of Ruinart before dinner.

Ain't we fancy.

Now for the five course meal!
There were champagne pairings for each course.

Our table finished the last bottle of Rose from 1998. Pretty special.

An absolutely excellent dinner. One of a kind.

That night, Le Vogue!
